The Makers Meet 2023 Program at Pustaka Miri

On the 25th and 26th of November, 2023, we, Realfun Learning Centre, participated in the Makers Meet Program organised by the Pustaka Negeri Sarawak, Miri. This is the second time this year we have been invited to join the program from Pustaka Miri (the last one was during the Sarawak Children Festival).

The Makers Meet program was about sharing and exchanging knowledge among local designers and creators from various fields and backgrounds, from arts all the way to science. It aims to foster creativity and innovation among the participants and inspire them at all community levels.

There were many exciting activities held during the 2-day program, for instance, an Arts and Crafts Workshop, a Cartoon Drawing Workshop by Niki Comic Artist, a Coffee Latte Art Workshop, Workshops regarding Natural Landscape Photography and Natural Soap Making, MakersMeet exhibitions, and many more.

In our case, we participated in the Knowledge Camp and set up a booth at the multimedia gallery. For our booth specifically, we teach children to program Bee-Bot to draw shapes on mahjong papers. After teaching them the basics of programming to move the Bee-Bot in drawing lines and curves, we asked the children to draw either of the four shapes we suggested.

Many primary students show interest in playing and doodling with the Bee-Bot, so they will visit our booth a few times just to play and challenge themselves to draw all the shapes we suggested. We were happy to see the enthusiasm from the children when playing with the Bee-Bot. To make it more fun and memorable, we rewarded the children with candies and snacks when they managed to draw using the Bee-Bot correctly.

Throughout the events, we also see many familiar faces of our students coming by our booth to play with the Beebot. Seeing our students outside the class and interacting in different settings is always a delight.

We are very happy and grateful for all the students and parents who visited our booth during the Makers Meet program. Thank you to Pustaka Miri for inviting us to their program again. We hope to participate in these kinds of programs in the future.
